Premier asked to answer about Ogilvie

I’ve joined members of the crossbench concerned about matters arising from the resignation of former Minister Madeleine Ogilvie, who’ve written to Premier Jeremy Rockliff for answers.

With Ms Ogilvie having been exposed for misleading Parliament and subsequently resigning as a Minister, there are a number of critical questions Mr Rockliff has been asked but has not answered about his involvement in and knowledge of this matter.

There is no satisfactory explanation for his repeated refusal to answer straightforward questions during Budget Estimates hearings in the House of Assembly and the Legislative Council last week.

The Premier is being asked to rethink his approach.

Mr Rockliff has been asked to respond to questions in the letter prior to 9:00 am, Friday 12 June. Further, he is asked to provide a response in the House of Assembly and table answers ahead of Question Time on Tuesday, 16 June – the earliest parliamentary opportunity.

Should direct and exact answers to all these questions not be forthcoming, the group reserves the right to use the parliamentary options available pursue the required accountability owed to Tasmanians.

Those options include censure, referral to a privileges committee or ordering documents and information be supplied.
