Greyhounds will unfortunately continue to suffer while the journey to end greyhound racing continues in Tasmania.
As chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Greyhound Racing Transition, I can advise the committee is focused currently on preparing a workplan for the transition.
That is an examination of other jurisdictions, including any parliamentary or statutory inquiries, decisions to phase out the industry, transition frameworks implemented, animal welfare issues, support for participants, compensation arrangements, timelines followed and social and economic impacts. We know the great majority of Tasmanians support this bill and will support this action.
Sadly, in the meantime greyhounds will continue being killed and injured by racing – more than 10 have died so far this year in Tasmania.
Labor is still pondering if they want that sort of animal cruelty to be their brand.
At the same time a racing dog was injured during an event held in support of Tasmania’s embattled greyhound industry. Tells you all you need to know. Enough… Labor? Ella? See Here.
