As this new Parliament begins its work, I want Tasmanians to know the principles that will guide my decisions.
My commitment is to contribute to stable governance and do my best to ensure the decisions of this Parliament are in the best interests of Tasmanians.
To determine that, my decisions will be informed by these questions:
• Is it based on evidence and good practice?
• Have the people affected been properly consulted?
• What is the impact on vulnerable Tasmanians; if adverse, how will the Government ease the burden?
• Is it fiscally responsible?
• Does it work for or against tackling climate change and protecting the environment?
• Does it align with the ‘future generations principle’; that is, does it compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs?
These are not abstract questions — they are the test of whether we are making responsible, fair, and forward-looking choices. Tasmania deserves nothing less.
