Thank you Mr Speaker.
My question is to the Minister for Racing.
Minister, in anticipation of your likely response, I want to acknowledge your offer to me of a private briefing on any racing matter.
However Minister, the issues I raise are of significant community concern. The people I represent want to hear YOU stand up in THIS PLACE and answer the questions on the public record.
Minister, in recent correspondence you confirmed that the investigations into both the animal cruelty incidents at Spreyton (where a horse was allegedly whipped approximately 43 times in a sand pit), and Brighton (where a horse was allegedly beaten with a pvc pipe) are apparently still ongoing?
Minister, why does it take almost 7 months to conduct an investigation?
And Minister, do you think it is appropriate that both these trainers have been allowed to continue to train during these lengthy investigations – potentially putting more horses at risk of abuse and cruelty?
