This morning in Parliament I will table a petition signed by over 6000 Tasmanians who support legislation that prohibits the harmful, archaic and barbaric practice of conversion therapy.

Conversion practices have no place in our modern society, and the response to this petition is clear indication that Tasmanians want to stand up for the LGBTQIA+ community and put an end to these abhorrent practices.

This afternoon I’ll be joined by Rodney Croome from Equality Tasmania and Glenn Worrell who endured over 20 years of conversion therapy and bravely shares his story in the hope that no-one else will ever have to go through the suffering and trauma that he endured.

The time has come for the Tasmanian Government to commit to the recommendations of the Tasmanian Law Reform Institute, ban conversion therapy practices and show the LGBTQIA+ community that it genuinely.
