In Parliament today I asked the Minister for State Development, Guy Barnett, if the Antarctic and Science Precinct would still be the anchor tenant at Macquarie Point.
We know that the second phase of the business case the Antarctic and Science Precinct was completed in October 2021, so why is it being kept a secret?
The business case must be released and the Minister must fess up about what his government is doing as we have surely missed the boat for federal funding now the federal election has passed.
My question is full:
Minister in all of the various versions of the Macquarie Point Master Plans, and there has been a number, the Antarctic and Science Precinct has been the anchor tenancy and primary investment attractor.
Given the Macquarie Point Development Corporation’s failure to secure any commitment to fund the establishment of the precinct, from either political party at the federal election, it would seem that this proposal is dead in the water – at least for the next three years.
This has surely got to be a massive blow to the marketing and development plans for the site.
Minister, does this mean that Tasmanian’s will see the site sit idle for the next three years or do you have a back-up anchor tenant that will attract the investment the site deserves?
Enough is enough. The veil of secrecy must be lifted from the Macquarie Point Development Corporation.
