I welcome Minister Barnett’s announcement of a review into allegations of poor management and governance at the Macquarie Point Management Authority.
The Minister said that the inquiry would be conducted by “independent internal auditors”, so forgive me if I feel a little nervous when I see the words “independent” and “internal” in the same sentence.
But I am prepared to take the Minister on his word and am grateful he has agreed to this step.
The terms of reference for the review will be the test: it must be truly far-reaching and transparent, and it is critical that all staff and board directors, both present and previous, have the opportunity to contribute.
I understand the Department of State Growth has already commissioned an internal report into management at Macquarie Point, but that has been kept under wraps.
Enough is enough. The veil of secrecy must be lifted from the Macquarie Point Development Corporation.
