The Independent Member for Clark, Kristie Johnston, has thrown her support behind Tasmanian Men’s Shed Awareness Week, reiterating the importance and contribution the Men’s Shed Association makes to the wellbeing and connectedness of the community.

“The Claremont Men’s Shed is a vital community asset that gives men a safe and welcoming environment where they can learn new skills, build friendships and make wonderful contributions to the community through a variety of projects,” Ms Johnston said.

“It’s very important that we recognise the positive impact that Men’s Sheds have on the mental health of older male Tasmanians.

“Men’s sheds also offer a sense of purpose along with an environment where members can interact, share experiences and seek support for a variety of wellbeing issues.”

Claremont Men’s Shed President, Colin Richardson, strongly encourages anyone who might be feeling alone or looking for connection to come along and experience what the shed has to offer.

“The Claremont Men’s Shed has come a long way in the last ten years.  From our humble beginnings in a small shed behind a local service station to this wonderful facility where we can continue to serve the community and care for the health and wellbeing of our members, it’s fantastic,” Mr Richardson said.

Tasmanian Men’s Shed Awareness Week runs from September 20 – 27th.
